Hardesty's History of Mason County says this about William and Jane . . . Last Updated August 29, 2005 This page is for the family tree of William Worthy McCallister (December 24, 1914 - December 29, 1990). There are other related family sites on the web. (2 more over-all links are at the bottom of this site) The grandfather of William Worthy was Andrew David (1823 - 1905) the seventh child of William and Jane. Andrew David McCallister married Elizabeth Duncan (1834 - 1913) and they had eight children, the 7th of which was Calvin Albert (1868 - 1934). In 1908 Calvin Albert, a twiced widowed farmer who had fathered 7 children but 3 of whom had deceased, married Ida Ellen Dailey (1883 - 1970) of Crown City, Ohio. They had eight children: Oscar Carlton (1909 - 2000); Print Walter (1911 - 1985); Margaret Marie (19__ - ____); William Worthy (Bud) (1914 - 1990); Mae Kathryn (1917 - 1994); Woodrow Melvin (1919 - 2000); Pansy Pearl (1921 - 2000); Frederick David (19__ - ____). William Worthy was called 'Bud' as a name of endearment & 'Bill' in adult life. He stayed with an older half-brother Floyd at different times in his school years. He attended high school in at least two other WV counties before graduating from Winfield High School in 1932. Afterwards he worked on the farm, then at Union Carbide for afew days. In 1936 while staying with Floyd & Gladys, he took the mumps, then 'graciously' shared them with his family. In June or July of 1936 he set off for a sister's (Virgie) house in Westerville, Ohio which is near Columbus, Ohio. There he intended to find a prospect for better employment and future for himself. He worked at various jobs. His Brother-In-Law Obart (Hobe) Carney got him one at a then popular department store called Moby's as a candy maker. This is where he met his future wife, Virginia Louise Bristow (April 19, 1916 - 1984). William & Virginia were married on September 15, 1939 at her parents home on Indianola Ave in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up near the Ohio State University where her parents home was adjacent to a fraternity house. Later her home became another fraternity house & has since been demolished for a parking lot. They resided in the Columbus area all of their married life & had two daughters, Ruth Lynn (9/27/1941) and Kristin Diane (9/15/1951). While William worked at Ohio Bell, he was given the nickname 'Bear Tracks' due to his wearing size 13 shoes. In 1965 they drove a station wagon up the gravel Alcon highway to Alaska to see their first grandchild. After William's retiring from OhioBell as an engineer, they became well-versed in traveling. Every winter they went in their RV to Florida to visit Mae and other relatives in the area, then Georgia to see Pansy, & then on to Brownsville, Texas. After Virginia passed away, William was a lonely widower who made sure he was in the company of another most every day. See Mabel Eggleton's story on Mary Ann McCallister Shank's page for details of their 4 years of happiness. His hobby was gardening; hers, crafts & collecting antiques especially BlueWillow china pattern. Bill & Virginia were cremated & their ashes buried in Sunset Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. Ruth Lynn married Stephen Charles Hustead (1/6/1941) in West Point, New York (6/6/63) upon Steve's graduation from United States Military Academy. They had two children, William Thomas (9/22/1964) and Linda Elizabeth (8/8/1966). Lynn & Steve like to remake old homes. They did 2 houses built pre-1900 in Victorian decors & are currently working on a country-motif one. Here are Ruth Lynn McCallister Hustead's son, William Thomas, & his wife, Catherine Janell Hayes Hustead (July 1, 1970). They met while working together in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They were married in Huntsville, Alabama on July 9, 1994. This picture was taken at Christmas 2000, at which time they were living in Springdale, Arkansas. Bill is a broker for A.G.Edwards & Sons.
