The year was 1863 that WV. became a separate state from Va. In other words, that was when WVa was carved out of Virginia. Mason County, VA in 1862 = Mason County, WVa in 1864.
Harrison was the 3rd child of William & Jane McCallister. He married Rachel George (October 3, 1818 - Feb 26, 1904) on May 6, 1865.
Harrison McCallister was born in Allegheny Co. Virginia, married in Mason Co. WVa, and died in Mason County, WVa. Rachel was born in Ohio and buried with Harrison in the McCallister/Wallace cemetery on Ohio 18 mile Creek which is in Mason County, WVA & probably near the town of Ashton, WV.
The Cable County library in Huntington, WV. supplied the information that Harrison died after being kicked by a colt which he was raising on his farm on Ohio 18 Mile Creek. The library also supplied the information that his daughter Mary Jane died at age 44 after being bitten by a calf she was teaching to eat out of a bucket. The calf bit her finger, it became infected and turned into blood poisoning which killed her.
Mason County Cemetery book says that Harrison died at the age of 69 years, 7 months, & 16 days and that his daughter Mary Jane died at the age of 44 years, 4 months & 12 days.
They had 3 daughters, Orpha Rachel (February 4, 1838 - January 7, 1914), Mary Jane (June 21, 1840 - September 3, 1884), and Martha Ann (December 28, 1843 - July 30, 1918).
Orphea married Davis H. Ball (???? - deceased) on November 3, 1858.
MaryJane married John W. Young (1840 - deceased) on September 29, 1859. The cause of MaryJane's death is described above. John was a Civil War Vet of the Confederate States of America. After MaryJane passed away, he remarried a woman by the name of Elizabeth. The two wives are buried on either side of him in the same cemetery as MaryJane's parents, Harrison and Rachel, are buried.
Martha Ann married John Brown (September 25, 1842 - April 24, 1919) on June 13, 1865. Martha Ann was born in Gallia Co. Ohio, Ohio Township, married in Mason County, WV, and died in Gallia Co. Ohio, Ohio Township. John was born in Meigs County, Ohio, Clay Township, died in Clay Township, Gallia County, Ohio, and buried in Swan Creek Cemetery, Ohio Township, Gallia County, Ohio .
MarthaAnn and John had 7 children : Margaret "Maggie" (1867 - 1939), Homor C. (1869 - deceased), Elza (1870 - deceased), Burl (1874 - deceased), Emma (1876 - 1912), Otis (October 6, 1879 - June 28, 1958), and Annie (1882 - 1920). Most of these siblings are buried in Raccoon Creek, Galia County, Ohio. This family was prominent in dairy farming in Galipolis, Ohio.
Dr. Homer C. Brown was known as the "Grand Old Man of Denistry" in Ohio.
Otis Brown married Arnetta "Netta" Olive Barcus (April 24, 1880 - April 3, 1958) on June 24, 1903 in Dallas, Texas. When asked by Otis what to call the new town they were founding, Netta based her response on her liking the author Washington Irving & so gave Irving Texas it's name.
Otis was born in Gallia County, Ohio, married in Dallas, Texas, died in Irving, TX, and buried in Oak Grove Memorial Park, Irving, TX. His occupation was a Civil Engineer. Netta was born in Austin County TX and died in Irving, Texas.
Otis and Netta had 6 children. One son, John Franklin Brown, was born February 27, 1912 in Irving, Texas.
John Franklin Brown married Dorothy Beverly Blankenship (October 4, 1911 - January 18, 1956) on October, 28 1935 in New York City. She died in Irving, Texas. They had a son, John Michael (Mike) Brown, who was born
in Dallas, Texas and now lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his wife Caroline.
