The father of Woodrow Melvin was Calvin Albert. As a twiced widowed farmer with 4 lively children, in 1908 he married Ida Ellen Dailey (1883 - 1970), of Crown City, Ohio. They had eight children: Oscar Carlton (1909 - 2000); Print Walter (1911 - 1985); Margaret Marie (19__ - ____) ; William Worthy (1914 - 1990); Mae Kathryn (1917 - 1994); Woodrow Melvin (1919 - 2000); Pansy Pearl (1921 - 2000); Frederick David (19__ - ____).

Woodrow was about 7 years old in this school picture. He was sickly all his young life and was not suppose to live very long. (boy did he fool them, seeing as how he stayed around until the ripe age of 81!!) For details of this story, click here. Woodrow was turned down 3 times for the WWII draft. He worked in South Charleston at the Westvaco Chemical Co. which later became Food Machinery Co. as a carpenter for 37 years. He was affectionately known to fellow workers as 'Mack'. He was a quiet man, never drunk, did not use foul language, seldom lost his temper, & a hard worker. His worst habit was chewing tobacco. If there was one thing wrong with the man, it was that he was too kind to everyone & some took advantage of his good nature.

Woodrow married Opal Wick (March 31, 1923 - April 12, 1997) on September 12, 1944 at ????. They always lived in WVa near his Mother. Woodrow & Opal loved both their family & to garden. They always tried to put their family before themselves. They had 6 children: Charles (Chuck) Woodrow (10/16/19__ - 2___), Albert Jackson (Jackie) (1946 - 1958), Edwin Lewis (19__ - 2___), Michael Lee (19__ - 2___), Catherine (Cathy) Marie (1954 - May 2, 2005) & 'Baby' (1957 - 1957). Woodrow & Opal are buried in the Winfield Cemetery along with Jack and Baby. Nine days before Woodrow died, his first great grandchild was born, namely Joseph Michael. Edwin OR Edward? After high school, Charles (Chuck) Woodrow joined the United States Army to serve his country. He married Edna Rymer (???? - ????) in ?city?,?ST? on June 27, 1962 when he was discharged from the Army. They had a son, Charles Anthony (Tony), who lived from 3/1965 - 6/25/1999. They have lived and worked in both Florida and WVa. In 2005 Charles was of Scott Depot, WV.

Jackie was sick from birth. Even though he died at an early age, he was a happy young boy.

Edwin (Ed) Lewis joined the Army after school. After he got out he worked as a auto mechanic and now owns his own shop. He was married once to (???????) but it was short lived. Michael married Vera Lovejoy (?/?/19__) on ????,19?? at ????. They added 3 to the family: Christina (?/?/19__), Jason (?/?/19__), and Amanda (?/?/19__). After school, Michael Lee was called to the Army but because of hearing problems was turned down. He then worked different jobs until he got on working construction for Union Carbide. Once they started cutting back he got on UCC working in the store's department and is still there. He has also built many houses in the Teays Valley area being a #1 carpenter and contractor. Christina (Christy) is Michael's oldest daughter.

Catherine (Cathy) Marie married Bernard Jenkins on ?/?/19?? at ????,????. They have 2 children, Kevin (?/?/19__) & Joseph (Joe) (?/?/19__). After school she became a housewife and always was. Living in Poca, at age 50 she passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. She was survived by her husband, Bernard Jenkins; sons, Joseph Jenkins and Kevin McCallister of Poca; daughter, Tammy Jenkins of South Charleston.
