Hardesty's History of Mason County says this about William and Jane . . . Last Updated September 3, 2002 This page is for the family tree of Mae Katheryn McCallister McQuain (Febraury 17, 1917 - September ??, 1994). There are other related family sites on the web. (2 more over-all links are at the bottom of this site) The grandfather of Mae Katheryn was Andrew David (1823 - 1905) the seventh child of William and Jane. Andrew David McCallister married Elizabeth Duncan (1834 - 1913) and they had eight children, the 6th of which was Calvin Albert (1868 - 1934). In 1908 Calvin Albert, a twiced widowed farmer having fathered 7 children but 3 of them having died by 1905, married Ida Ellen Dailey (1883 - 1970), of Crown City, Ohio. They had eight children: Oscar Carlton (1909 - 2000); Print Walter (1911 - 1985); Margaret Marie (19__ - ____); William Worthy (1914 - 1990); Mae Katheryn (Tettie) (1917 - 1994); Woodrow Melvin (1919 - 2000); Pansy Pearl (1921 - 2000); Frederick David (19__ - ____). This is from a picture taken on their back porch of she & some of her brothers & sisters. In the picture the girls (Mae & Marie) are sitting with their shoulders behind the 'more important' boys. LOL Womens Lib hadn't quite been thought of yet! Mae & William Clyde (Clyde) McQuain (April, 1911 - December 7, 1997) met in ???? & were married on December 18, 1942. Soon after their wedding, they moved to St. Petersburg, Florida. After arriving, Clyde joined the Coast Guard and worked as a guard at the naval yard located in St.Petersburg. Clyde had 11 brothers & all 12 of them were in WW II.There they had 2 daughters, Donna Lee McQuain (1/17/19__) and Linda Sue McQuain (12/8/19__). Mae was a stay at home mom until her girls were big enough to go to school. She worked in many stores, clerking & selling products. She tells of an older gentleman customer's comment, 'If they had electric blankets & canned biscuits when I was a young man, I don't think I would ever have gotten married'. She liked people & was a good sales person. When Clyde got out of the Coast Guard, he worked as a district manager for the Imperial Oil Company. This caused them to live in many different places throughout Florida. Each time they would move, Mae would find a new store to work in. The last 10 years of his working life, Clyde operated his own Tenneco service station in Dade City, FLa. They bought property there & settled down to enjoy life. Mae found a good church nearby, which she attended faithfully. Clyde built and flew ultra light aircraft. After retirement, Clyde built his own shop where he worked on his airplanes, yet was nearby to keep a check on Mae. She had developed Parkinson's Disease and had trouble getting around. Clyde was always near so when Mae called, he would come running to help her. Clyde not only built ultra light planes, but he had his private pilot's license at the local airport. He never did get Mae to take a ride with him. When Clyde & Mae would come back to WVa to visit, they both had such large families that they never did get to see everyone unless each family had everyone gather at one place. This did occur on several occasions & these were enjoyable times. Mae passed away in September 1994. Clyde lived on alone until 1997 when he fell at 1 of his daughters home's (Linda Snow). He passed away in the hospital later that night. Clyde & Mae are buried together in the lots they already owned in the cemetery in Dade City, FLa. WHY DID THEY MOVE FROM WVa?
